Spring Is A Great Time to Rejuvenate Your Decor!

We are getting ready for spring here at the store with new merchandise arriving daily! If you love wine like I do, we have some cool new wine accessories to decorate your wine bottles, store your wine, turn your empty wine bottles into a great oil lamp, new decorative stoppers and beautiful new appetizer plates to serve your snacks on.

If you want to add some spring color to your home, we have you covered there too! We had the beautiful oversized florals last spring and they were so popular, we have them back. Stop in andpick out a container and Kim or I will help you fill it with wonderful spring color! If you already have a container, you can bring that in too and we will fill it with a custom arrangement. The colors for spring are lime green (of course), persimmon, cream, pink, yellow and white.

Want to bring the outdoors in? No, not the cold air and the snow... How about whimsical frogs,birds, butterflies and moss in the colors for spring. I think there's probably a bunny or two in the mix as well. It's not spring without the bunnies!

Add a little color to your home year round with beautiful pottery. There are some great red pieces as well as lime green and yellow. A little yellow will really add a pop of color to any decor!Want to redecorate without spending a ton of money? How about new throw pillows? Choose a bright color in a solid, geometric or floral fabric and you can change the whole look of your living or family room or the bedroom.

Using Fall Decor to Take You Into Christmas

This is an idea that just might save you time AND money. Which of us wouldn't like to have more of both? The holiday season will soon be here, so try these tips and to take your fall look into Christmas.

In the photo at the top of the blog, is a beautiful mantle (if I do say so myself) decked out for the fall season. To change the look to a holiday scene, remove the pumpkins, sunflower and the candles. The garland shown is brown and gold with just small touches of orange. Make it holiday festive by tucking in some pine greenery pics, gold glitzy leaves and tree ornaments in golds, browns, and maybe sage green. Use the same color ideas for candles on the candlesticks. In place of the pumpkins, add a nativity scene or a holiday charger. Can you picture it?

At the bottom of the page is a fall tablescape. For this one, again, remove the pumpkins, candles, and turkey. Also, remove the garland this time. Add in the pine greenery pics on the table top and also tuck in some glizty leaves or berries and some beautiful ornaments. Put a set of two or three candlesticks on the end opposite the floral arrangement and top them with some of our great battery powered candles. To make the floral arrangement look like it's ready for the holidays, add some pine branches and sparkly berry stems. Now you're getting the idea!

You can continue on through the house using these same tips to add holiday glitz to any area of your home. Now all you have to do is put up the tree, start your holiday shopping, get the baking done, respond to all of those holiday invitations.... No wonder we're all exhausted!

The Store and I Have Entered the Blogosphere!

This is a new venture for me. Many stores are starting a blog to tell you about them and the services they offer. Our blog will be about the store, but it will also offer decorating and color tips and anything else our customers would like to see information on. I used to teach classes through community ed, so I guess this will be an extention of that, but in cyber space!

Recently, a customer asked if it was appropriate to put a different color leather sofa with two leather chairs she already owned. It is appropriate, but I gave her a few ideas to make the whole process easier. There are always lots of questions to ask before you start any re-decorating process. The existing chairs are a rusty red color. My first question was, "What color are the walls and flooring?" What style are the chairs? Are they traditional or contemporary or are they transitional? Transitional is a style that is somewhere between the two.

I told her that I thought it would be a good idea to pair fabric pillows and an area rug with the leather pieces. A fabric print will help pull all the colors together, suggest a style and soften the look of all that smooth leather. A fabric ottoman might also be a good idea. Once she chooses a fabric print that appeals to her, she can use it as a guide. The colors in the fabric will give her an idea of what color of leather to choose for the sofa. If she chooses a print with complimentary colors from the color wheel, the sofa could be a sage green or navy blue. If she chooses a print with colors that are related on the color wheel, the sofa might be a tan, brown or mustard color.

She can pull colors and patterns from the fabric and leather for the area rug and think of it as art work for the floor! Before you ask, yes, you can put an area rug over carpet. She should use the print on accent pillows on the sofa and chairs. If she chooses to do and ottoman, she can either use the same fabric or pull in another compatible print in similar colors for the ottoman.

It's really much easier than anyone thinks and it really is fun! Don't be afraid to try and if you're not sure, come into the store and talk to
